Support Groups

Who attends?

Bereaved children up to 18 yrs old with a parent or guardian. Accompanying adults (except at Young People’s Group) will be required to stay in a separate room on the premises. Refreshments are available.

What goes on?

Support Groups offer children and families the opportunity to meet and work through their bereavement journey, supported by volunteers with planned activities, games, stories and puppet interaction.

A typical group will focus on a common theme of thoughts, feelings and emotions related to death and dying, e.g. sadness, anger, guilt and memories.

The sessions are set up depending on the age of the child. Children’s groups are for those aged up to 11/12 years, and the Young Peoples Groups (YPG) are for those aged 11yrs – 18yrs.

The young people are encouraged to engage in common aspects of their stories to support them in working through feelings and emotions.

Venues:

Basingstoke (0-18yrs), Chandler’s Ford (0-11yrs), Chandlers Ford YPG (11-up to 18yrs), New Milton (0-up to 18yrs), Gosport (0-up to 18yrs), Portsmouth (0-18yrs) & Andover (0-18yrs).

The sessions are set up depending on the age of the child. There is some degree of flexibility in ages at each group depending on family circumstances, learning difficulties, emotional maturity etc.

When?

Sessions run generally on a monthly basis at the weekend or in the evening.

Our support groups are free of charge to access, once registered. Families are able to attend as and when they like for as long as they need (up to the age of 18).
