Two New Trustees for Simon Says Child Bereavement CIO
Simon Says is a Charity based in Hampshire that supports children and young people who have a close relative or friend who has died or is dying. The death of someone important can have a devastating effect on a young person, but we know that given appropriate support and information, children and young people can be helped to understand what has happened and to rebuild their lives.
We are seeking to recruit two Trustees to join the Board of Simon Says. To complement existing skills across the Board we are particularly interested in people with expertise in psychology and / or a legal background. Similar or equivalent skills and experience are also welcome.
Simon Says became a registered charity in 2001 . However, our development and growth over recent years resulted in the Charity Commission approving our application to become a CIO ( Charitable Incorporated Organisation ) in late 2021.
We provide support across Hampshire and receive over 700 calls per year requesting information , advice or direct support, from individuals, families, schools and other organisations supporting children and young people. Last year there were over 1000 attendances by bereaved children across our 7 Support Groups.
This is an exciting time for our growing organisation, with a new Chair , new office location and an approved Business Plan for the next 2 years.
The role of the Board of Trustees is a critical in supporting the management of Simon Says to navigate opportunities and any obstacles as we develop into the future. We have these vacancies due to retirements and would welcome an approach from anyone with experience in the sector who has a passion to change outcomes for young people who have been bereaved.
Please note the role of Trustee is not remunerated but we do offer training and support to all volunteers including Trustees to ensure they are fully equipped to carry out their role.
Trustee duties include attendance at Board meetings (of which there are 4 in-person per year in the evening) occasional operational meetings, and a Board Away Day. Trustees are also encouraged to attend events to offer support to the volunteers, staff and service users. Please note: our 2 most important ones for the children and families are a summer BBQ and a Christmas Party.
