The Beginning

Simon Stanley was a 37 year old teacher from Southampton when he died from cancer in this year.

His wife Sally found there was no bereavement support locally for their two small children.

April 2001

Their experience as a family led to the establishment of “Simon Says” as a registered charity, with 6 original trustees of which Sally was one.

Objects – to support Hampshire children and young people up to the age of 18 years who have a significant person in their life who has died or is dying.

2002

Formal Launch

Formal launch of Simon Says Child Bereavement Charity in March this year.

More Support Groups opened during the following years, with a unique group for Teenagers (Young Persons Group) being established and run by a young man who had used Simon Says services himself’.

2020

Lottery Funding

A five year funding granted from The National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund provided a stable income for the next few years

2021

Registered CIO

The charity becomes registered as a Charitably Incorporated Organisation ( CIO) in order to ensure good governance in an increasingly complex world.

2024

Moving

The charity moved to its current office base on the Broadlands Estate in Romsey.

It launched it’s 8th Support Group.

It began its Champion Schools programme.
