Please meet our very talented friend Poppy. She is 9 years old and is one of our service users.
Poppy is the founder of ‘Poppy’s Craft Club’. She creates and hosts monthly craft activities for her friends who in return make a donation to Simon Says.
We spoke to Poppy about her love of crafting and why she supports Simon Says.
You are the founder of ‘Poppy’s Craft Club.’ Can you tell us how you came up with the idea?
Me and Mummy wanted to raise some money for Simon Says but we didn’t want to do a run or a walk as we did that last year. Last year one of the best things was having my friends supporting us so I wanted to do something that could include them and we all love crafting and doing creative stuff and thought we could make a club to do it once a month.
How do you decide on each monthly theme? Where do get your inspiration from?
Mummy said I had to use things in the house or things that can be found so it does not cost any money, so we used the internet to find ideas. Our next one is next week and we are making summer wreaths with willow which the florist down the road donated to me and we are going to meet at the park and find pretty things to decorate it with.
What do you enjoy most about crafting?
I like getting my friends together and going out and enjoying some time outside with them to find all the materials we need. It’s really nice that they have all been supporting me with raising money. They also helped me do a presentation to the school about Poppy’s Craft Club in assembly.
You are raising money for Simon Says to support bereaved children and young people. Why is this so important?
Simon Says has helped me deal with losing my Dad when I was seven and I have enjoyed meeting others that are in the same situation and understand how I feel and it’s nice to talk to them about how I feel. I wanted to raise some money for Simon Says so they can keep helping and having the support groups which are really good.
