This year Simon Says is celebrating our 25th anniversary!
Simon Says became a registered charity in 2001 with the aim of supporting children and young people in Hampshire who have someone important to them who has died or is dying, sadly usually a parent.
On New Year’s Day, the Spinnaker Tower lit up in Simon Says trademark blue to mark the start of their 25th anniversary year.
The death of someone important can have a devastating effect on a child’s life but given support, children can be helped to understand what has happened and rebuild their lives. The charity’s 8 Support Groups run throughout Hampshire and offer children and families the opportunity to work through their bereavement journey. A typical group will use carefully planned craft activities, games and stories which focus on three important themes, ‘memories’, ‘managing big emotions’ and ‘growing hope for the future’. These sessions are important as they help children to normalise their grief and realise they are not alone.
Our Support Groups are free of charge and can be accessed for as many sessions as needed. Adults stay onsite so they can seek the advice of volunteers and often find invaluable peer-to-peer support. Throughout the year, children come together at other special events, including a Christmas party and Summer Family Fun Day.
We also provide a Helpline and run a ‘Champion School Programme’ which provides resources and vital training for schools, colleges & nurseries. They now have over 50 schools on the programme.
We have a wonderful series of events to celebrate across 2026, designed to raise awareness, engage the community, and generate vital funds to sustain their service and we hope you will join us!
