School Professionals

Did you know that one child in every UK classroom will be bereaved of a parent or sibling? At any one time 70% of UK schools will have a newly bereaved child on their roll.

Grieving children typically don’t need a specialised bereavement professional, but they do need people who listen well, genuinely care and who can provide support over time.

Knowing how children and young people grieve  differently to adults and what they understand at different ages and stages,  will help you to know how best to support a child or young person on their grief journey.

Simon Says can support you in the following ways

School professionals and families can ring 023 8064 7550 for advice. The Helpline is open Monday – Fridays 9:00-5:00pm.

The Simon Says Champion Schools Programme aims to empower staff with the confidence, knowledge, and resources necessary to offer vital support to bereaved pupils when they need it most.

By providing an environment where bereavement is understood and sensitively addressed, schools can significantly impact the emotional well-being and academic success of their bereaved pupils.

Join our supportive network of schools across Hampshire, Southampton and Portsmouth and become a Simon Says Champion School!

Visit our Simon Says Champion Schools page to find out more.

If you are working with a family who you feel would benefit from coming to the support groups, please ask the family to ring our helpline for more information and to register.

We do not take referrals directly from professionals or schools as we believe that the family has to feel ready and be in the right place to seek support and to come to our support groups.

The Simon Says Education Team can provide telephone call or a teams meeting to discuss how best to support a newly bereaved pupil at your setting. We also offer staff training sessions online or in person. Please contact info@simonsays.org.uk for further information.
