Volunteer
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Simon Says

Volunteering is a powerful way to make a positive impact while gaining valuable personal and professional experience.
Train with us to become a volunteer who can support bereaved children across Hampshire, help our Fundraising or give us some of your time to run the office.
You will feel part of a strong team where you can use your existing skills as well as learning new ones.
You can help us in many ways
Our Helpline offers guidance to all those caring for a child or young person who has someone important in their life who has died or is dying.
Volunteers offer support, provide information, discuss options, make practical suggestions and advise how best to support the bereaved child or young person.
We deliver presentations to organisations who want to learn more about the work of Simon Says.
Working with schools and professional healthcare bodies, we deliver training sessions and workshops.
Volunteers need to be confident talking to groups of all sizes.
Eight support groups are held monthly across the County for children and young people up to the age of 18 years.
The groups offer the children and young people the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation and work through their bereavement journey, through age-appropriate activities.
Volunteers need to be friendly, approachable and able to work well with children and young people to facilitate a variety of activities and encourage them to talk about their loved ones.
Simon Says is not government funded and depends on donations.
We welcome volunteers who are keen to fundraise, whether with a bucket collection or organising an event.

Sheila Perry

I have been volunteering with Simon Says for 17 years. I joined in response to an advert I saw, looking for people with an interest in arts and crafts, because those are amongst my hobbies. I had no prior experience of either working with children, or bereavement – other than my own personal losses.

I first came across the opportunity to volunteer for Simon Says through my university’s career development website. Upon reading the description it stood out to me as a way to be involved in something bigger than myself that would provide emotional support and comfort to children within my local community who are potentially struggling in silence.

I began volunteering for Simon Says in 2019 at the Chandler’s Ford Group. I chose to volunteer for Simon Says as I know there is a real need for this type of support for children and young people in Hampshire who experience the death of a parent, or other important person in their life. Like many others I also have a personal connection.
Simon Says provide training and support for all volunteers
Volunteering is not just about giving – it’s also about growing, connecting, and making the world a better place, one step at a time.
Training is given and if you would like to volunteer we would love to hear from you. We have a very friendly group of both established and new volunteers who will provide you with a network of support once you get started.
